The 2016 Nuclear Industry Summit (NIS 2016) took place in Washington, D.C. at the Grand Hyatt Washington. The NIS 2016 Awards Luncheon and the 2016 Nuclear Industry Summit Expo were held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, site of the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit (NSS 2016).*
During NIS 2016, hundreds of CEOs and industry leaders from around the world conferred about finalizing actions from previous Nuclear Industry Summits and address three key areas:
- Securing the Use, Storage and Transport of Strategic Nuclear and Radiological Materials
- Managing the Cyber Threat
- The Role of the Nuclear Industry Globally
World leaders from more than 50 countries and four international organizations focused on preventing nuclear terrorism throughout the globe gathered for the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit (NSS 2016) from Thursday, March 31-Friday, April 1 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) was proud to organize the 2016 Nuclear Industry Summit.
* The Nuclear Industry Summit is an official side event of the Nuclear Security Summit. Both NIS and NSS were started in 2010 after President Obama announced an international effort to secure vulnerable nuclear materials, break up black markets, and detect and intercept illicitly trafficked materials. Previous Summits were held in the U.S. (2010), South Korea (2012) and the Netherlands (2014).
